We were delighted to be the keynote speakers today at the Ferst Readers of Henry Count Spring Luncheon. The event is an annual fundraiser that’s been going on for 15 years. It raises money to buy books to be donate to children. It’s a remarkable program that is changing lives in this community.
Here are three takeaways from the event.
1. Costumes, Please!
Several individuals dressed up in costumes in honor of their favorite book characters. One person dressed as Pete the Cat and another was Carmen San Diego. There was also Robin Hood and Cruella de Vil, among others.
2. Gather the Community
Many folks we spoke with look forward to this event all year. It’s an exciting opportunity for community members to come together for a noble cause of childhood literacy. Volunteers work to put the event together from organizing the silent auction to making sure there is food and beverage for everyone.
3. Interest in Indian Culture
We read Festival of Colors during our remarks. It’s spring in Georgia, and it’s the season of new beginnings and colorful changes. We were delighted that many enjoyed the story and wanted to know more about Indian culture. We even shared with everyone about our new book coming this fall about Indian food. We made the point that Indian food doesn’t have to be spicy! Just flavorful.
