The Recipe
A crunchy, sweet treat made with peanuts, sesame seeds, and jaggery, packed with flavor and nutrition
For 4-5 people (10 to 12 pieces)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup peanuts (mungfali) shelled and slightly crushed
- ½ cup sesame seeds (til)
- 1 cup jaggery (gur) from an Indian store or online
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1/3 cup of water
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder (optional)
Instructions:
- Dry roast peanuts on low flame until golden brown and aromatic. Let them cool.
- Dry roast sesame seeds separately until they pop slightly. Set aside.
- In a pan, heat ghee, jaggery and water. Stir continuously on low flame until it melts. Cook until it reaches a hard-ball stage (drop a little syrup in cold water—if it hardens immediately, it’s ready).
- Quickly add roasted peanuts, sesame seeds, (stirring continuously) and cardamom powder to the jaggery syrup. Mix well. Pour the mixture onto a greased surface or parchment paper. Flatten it using a rolling pin. Let it cool slightly and cut it into pieces while it is still warm.
- Allow the chikki to cool completely before breaking it into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
