We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Atlanta International School (AIS), where we shared our stories with first graders.
This year, AIS will feature India in its spring benefit gala.
Here are our 3 takeaways from the event:
1. Dance, dance, dance
The kids love to dance!
We wanted to start with a fun book because it’s springtime in Atlanta.
The birds are chirping, the weather is lovely.
So, we began with Bhangra Baby and demonstrated the bhangra moves.
Then we played the video and everyone was dancing and clapping along.
Even the teachers!
2. Question time
The students asked insightful questions such as…
What are your inspirations for your books?
Do they really decorate elephants in India?
What is your favorite book that you’ve written?
Have you ever made a rakhi?
3. Preview of Raksha Bandhan
We rarely get an opportunity to read Thread of Love our book about rakhi because this festival often happens in August when schools aren’t in session.
So, with Holi (and Festival of Colors) behind us, we decided to read this book, and we’re glad that we did.
We sang the book together with the students and teachers. It was great fun.
We thank the AIS faculty and staff for helping coordinate the visit.
They even had colorful sharpies for us to sign books!
